Arresting Alcohol-2.2

The priest has met a beggar in the plaza and has commenced in conversation with him. They are talking about alcohol which is an interesting subject of conversation since it isn’t quite legal here in Mexico. This is not something that I would expect this priest to talk about since he is trying to avoid being put in prison, but they seem to be having a very intriguing conversation anyway. This beggar seems to be fluent in finding how to get alcohol and looks like he knows a guy who can get some of that illegal beverage. As they continue to converse amongst themselves, they come to the agreement that the beggar will bring the priest to the guy he knows who just happens to be the Governor’s cousin.
After waiting in the room of the Governor’s cousin for a little while, the man they were waiting to arrive arrives and they sit and chat for a little while. While they were in the Governor’s cousin’s room, the Chief of Police comes and joins in the conversation and the consumption of brandy and wine. They stay for a little while longer and then they have to leave for they have previous engagements to attend to. While the priest heads out to find a place to stay for the night, he runs into some red shirts and gets put in prison for drinking alcohol. Since he has no money, he is forced to stay the night and clean the prison cells the next morning. During his night in prison, he tells all the fellow inmates that he is the priest who is being searched for. The other prisoners do not tell the police that he is the priest and so, he gets let out of prison after he has done the series of tasks that he had been given to do.

  1. I find it interesting how you mention the fact that the beggar seems to know how to find alcohol. Do you think his connections to the alcohol have any relation to the fact that he is a beggar?
